“a statue of a former UVA student”
There's a statue of a former UVA student, James Rogers McConnell designed by the man behind Mt. Rushmore. The student dropped out of college to fight in World War I for the French Army and was killed in action. This statue commemorates him in a way that the student, a frat boy known for drinking, probably would have approved of, being nearly nude with only a jock strap and helmet on. The statue is referred to by students as The Aviator statue.
