“Beacon of faith in Charlotte for 70 years”
The Cathedral of Saint Patrick has been a beacon of faith in the Charlotte community for close to 70 years. Our parishioners form a community that endeavors to support one another as we grow together in faith and holiness. The strength of our faith and our commitment to authentic Catholic Tradition, values, and teaching will ensure that this parish will continue to reflect God’s endless love, grace, mercy and goodness for years to come. As a parish family, we strive to enable ongoing conversion to Christ of our adults, to inspire faith in our children, and to be witnesses of His love in the greater community. The history of the Cathedral begins with the construction of the parish on March 17, 1938 through the generous donation of John Henry Phelan. On September 4, 1939, the Most Reverend McGuinness of the Diocese of Raleigh consecrated the church. On January 12, 1972, His Holiness Pope Paul VI erected the Diocese of Charlotte and on the same date, Saint Patrick Church became the Cathedral of Saint Patrick. Today, the Cathedral is a parish of over 1,000 families who travel from all over Mecklenburg county and the surrounding areas to worship with us. The Cathedral of Saint Patrick Mission states: We the members of St. Patrick Cathedral, through the mercy of God the Father, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit, seek to grow continually in knowledge of and love for God. We strive to enable ongoing conversion to Christ of our adults, to inspire faith in our children, and to be witnesses of His love in the greater community.
