“legendary American drive-in”
The Penguin Drive-In is a landmark restaurant in the heart of Charlotte’s Plaza-Midwood neighborhood. Family owned since 1954, The Penguin has been one of America’s most legendary Drive-In Restaurants. Founded by Charlotte N.C. native Jim Ballantine, a World War II veteran and member of the U.S. Army’s renowned 101st Airborne Division, The Penguin Drive-In has become a friendly gathering place for generations of patrons from all walks of life. Many patrons of The Penguin Drive-In who were raised on our home-style cooking now share it with their own children, and have become part of our extended family of regular customers that enjoy traditional American classics at reasonable prices.
