“legendary American drive-in”

The Penguin Drive-In is a landmark restaurant in the heart of Charlotte’s Plaza-Midwood neighborhood. Family owned since 1954, The Penguin has been one of America’s most legendary Drive-In Restaurants. Founded by Charlotte N.C. native Jim Ballantine, a World War II veteran and member of the U.S. Army’s renowned 101st Airborne Division, The Penguin Drive-In has become a friendly gathering place for generations of patrons from all walks of life. Many patrons of The Penguin Drive-In who were raised on our home-style cooking now share it with their own children, and have become part of our extended family of regular customers that enjoy traditional American classics at reasonable prices. Featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and Man v. Food Season 4!
