As one of the leading hands-on science centers in the country, Discovery Place offers visitors the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the basics of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a fun, interactive and informal setting. Located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas, Charlotte, North Carolina, Discovery Place offers a family-friendly experience surrounded by the excitement of a bustling urban community. Visitors also can get close to nature by visiting Charlotte Nature Museum, adjacent to Freedom Park and located in one of the community’s finest residential areas. Charlotte Nature Museum visitors may walk among free-flying butterflies, observe live animals, buzz around with insects or hang out in the natural world. Daily programming including puppet shows and hands-on activities provide the opportunity for structured learning and informal play for the young and old alike.

We took our 11 year old and 1 year old girls and they loved it. My wife and I had a blast as well. There are plenty of places to eat just outside of it as well. Great stop for our long road trip as they kids are worn out now :)

Full star lost due to price-to-time-spent ratio being way off. Without an IMAX visit the $50 entry for a family of 3 feels unreasonably high.

We've been to a ton of kids museums across the country with our 5 year old daughter. This one has pretty standard fair for this type of place, although I felt like it was a bit small and sparce, most of the footprint of the building was taken up by theatre space (IMAX and another 3D one). There were a few good shows/presentations while we were there but not as many as I would have liked to see (by show I mean a staff member talking about some science thing for kids to learn more about and explore). The natural exhibits especially could have benefited from this sort of interactive staff feature.

All in all my daughter had a good time.

Our 5 year had an amazing time! My husband and I had just as much fun as she did. This is definitely an all day hangout spot. We spent about 5 hours there and probably could have stay a little longer!
