Karpeles Manuscript Museum is part of a national chain of ten libraries and museums that house "the largest private collection of original manuscripts and documents in the world." Charleston's museum is located in historical St. James Chapel, a former methodist church built in 1856, and it contains exhibits from a wide array of genres including music, science, religion, literature, art, exploration and political history. The items contained in each of these ten museums are rotated quarterly so that people all across the nation can enjoy everything that the Karpeles Manuscript Museum has to offer
