Paisley Park After Dark is a brand new Events and Music Venue catering to the local and national music scene.
Paisley Park - 65,000 sq. foot workplace, playground, occasional home and final resting place of the man who let us know what it sounds like when doves cry. It's a completely nondescript office building - no signs except a street number. You will not run across it without doing your research ahead of time. Security is tighter than it was at the White House. You can't take pictures or recordings, anything electronic gets taken up at the desk. Everyone talks in reverent hushed tones about "the boss". They don't clean the glass because his fingerprints are still on it. It's $40 to walk through a few of his workspaces and several "themed" rooms. If you show up more than 20 minutes early to your appointment, they dismiss you from the grounds.
I found all the security and reverence a bit silly, but really enjoyed seeing his workspace. The studio was well laid out and I enjoyed critiquing his choice of pedals, amps and guitars. I was quick enough to catch that one of his displayed guitars was a reproduction - not the original cloud guitar. I wanted to ask how all the rooms were wired, but the tour guide was not privy to that info. Lot of memorabilia, lot of costumes, some cool guitar bits and a lot of commercialism. You could buy a cheap Paisley Park branded tamborine at the gift shop for $80...
Hours and dates open change so check website before going there. Wanted to visit on a Monday when I was Minneapolis and they were closed. It is a like a compound with high fences and a security gate so it's not like you can even get a good photo of the place when it is closed. I was surprised that it was on a main, busy street considering how private Prince was. Wish I could have seen inside. Looks like a neat place.
What a great experience to be able to tour where Prince had is office and recorded much of his music. To stand
in Studio A was a highlight for me. Lots of memorabilia and awards on display. Would love to go back and see how the VIP tour compares to the standard tour.
The tour was fabulous. One of the highlights of our road trip. The guide had an outstanding knowledge of Prince and the space. Paisley Park and the items and spaces available for the tour enables us to truly envision what went on there. The private quarters were not available on the general admission tour. However so many spaces were. It was well worth every penny!
