The majestic beauty of the Pine Ridge forms the backdrop for this great, get away from it all state park, 9 miles south of Chadron on U.S. 385. At an elevation of nearly 5,000 feet, the 972 acre park lies in the heart of the Nebraska National Forest and is dominated by ponderosa pines. We stayed only one night on our way to Mt Rushmore but it was gorgeous & clean. We got to pick our spots 60 & 61 right across from the bathrooms which were perfect. The sites were generously sized, easily marked & reasonably priced. They had horseback riding on premises for $16 a person - a real steal unfortunately we didn't realize it early enough. The camp store was open late, there was a pool (for an extra fee) & so much more to explore here. The only drawback was lack of trees although we didn't need it as it was in the 40's overnight in JULY....what a surprise for Florida people. Otherwise I highly recommend this site for it's convenience, quiet & other amenities.
