“authentic 1940s motel along the Mother Road”

2012 was the first year the motel will be open for travelers in more than twenty years! We will have rooms available starting May 8, 2012, in the section of the motel that was built in 1946, including one of the 2 rooms in which Clark Gable stayed! Our plan is to provide an authentic early motel experience for you, as if you were travelling Route 66 or Route 71 in the 1940s, when these highways were in their heyday, and the Boots was at the “Crossroads of America” at the junction of Route 66, from Chicago to LA, and Route 71 going from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. In 1939, the Boots advertised "a radio in every room", so we do provide a radio. There are no televisions in the rooms. The Motel office currently has a lovely 1949 Zenith TV which is purely decorative. Each room has either one or two double beds, a real closet, and a bathroom with a tile shower. The Internet is available in all rooms (if you bring your own computer) as it doesn't impact the historic appearance of the rooms. If you have special needs, such as allergies to feather pillows, please let us know. We will accommodate that by replacing any feather pillows with hypo-allergenic foam ones. Our rooms are not wheelchair accessible due to the size of the bathrooms.

We arrived around 9pm after a long day of driving, and the woman working the front desk was very kind. She had a few rooms open and showed them all to us, and gave us a brief history of the place. They are currently refurbishing the exterior, but all of the interiors of the rooms were in great shape. Much of the furniture and décor was original or from the original time frame, and the rooms were very clean and in great shape. I would definitely stay here again.

LOVED LOVED LOVED Staying here!! Bunny was so sweet and inviting when we arrived. The rooms were lovely and I especially loved the fact that *whispers* there are no tvs!! Just retro radios playing classic music or even older versions of more current songs. Very relaxing and a great place to unwind after a long day on the road. Hope to stay again some day

What a gem. Ask to stay in the Clark Gable room! The radio was tuned to an old jazz station, and everything about my room screamed 1940s awesome. The volunteer motel attendant was knowledgable and INCREDIBLY friendly. I can't imagine staying anywhere else! STAY HERE STAY HERE STAY HERE!!

George from Gary's Gay Parita suggested this place. It was very retro with a neon exterior. If you don't mind not having a TV or mini frig and coffee in your room it's a great place to stay. There is a coffee shop (Pancake house) walking distance for that. I was given the Clark Gable room because I was told he actually stayed here twice. It has an old fashioned radio, decor all from the 1930-40's era. I felt like I time warped.

Recently restored! Meet Debbie who is the onsite manager, she's great. We were able to see most of the rooms and choose which we wanted to stay in. They are all pretty much the same with a few changes in layout but all clean and well furnished. They all have a vintage inspired radio that is playing oldies when you arrive to your room. Love this place!
