Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on September 17, 2022We camped here for two nights July 3 & 4. We were visiting daughter and son-in-law in Sioux Falls which is only 30 minutes north of the campground. The park is beautifully situated on land that rises out of the plains and is heavily wooded. Activities can include hiking, biking (rentals available onsite), kayaking or laying on the beach at the nearby lake, and playgrounds for the children. Showers are available in the restrooms. The park staff had our check-in package ready when we arrived. Fellow campers were very quiet and considerate especially with the campground full and on the 4th of July. There are 128 electrical sites with 30 & 50 amp service, tent sites, and 10 equestrian sites with electric service and horse corral. This is a very popular park so reserve early especially for weekend stays. We will be back!!

Beautiful campground. Stopped overnight when we needed a last minute place to stay and everything else was booked. 30/50 amp service so we were comfortable. Water and dump station available, but not at sites. Gravel road and site was a little uneven. Leveling jacks sunk into pad, so bring blocks.
Playground for those with kids and events going on everyday. I didn’t look at the bathroom facilities. Verizon was spotty. A lot of beautiful hikes in the area. Very wooded with lots of trails.

We stayed here for 6 nights in mid-May, 2020. Be aware that if you are not a resident of SD you have to pay a one-time $8 "reservation" fee, even if you arrive to an empty park. In addition there is a daily charge -- per vehicle -- to enter the park. To combat this and to reduce what we were paying daily, we opted for longer stays at SD state parks and purchased an annual vehicle pass. Otherwise, to stay one night would be about $40 when the fees are added to the $26 cost of the campsite.
We really liked this park. Easy access just a few miles off of I-29 with good sized interior roads. It was a breeze getting into our back-in site. Our site had plenty of space and good space from our neighbors. The only downside was road noise in the location we chose. This certainly would not be a factor in other areas of this large park and camping areas. Like other SD state parks, the hiking trails are very well marked and well maintained. We put in quite a few miles while here. In addition, we did some kayaking on Lake Lakota which is right next to the park. Nothing spectacular there, but a nice pleasant paddle nonetheless. Paddling from point-to-point along the Big Sioux river is also easily doable from here, but we didn't get to that this trip.
This park had well-maintained facilities and could easily accommodate any sized rig.
Would definitely return here in the future.

We stopped her on our way back from the Badlands. The showers/bathrooms were very clean. Highly recommend making sure you are under some sort of tent or awning this time of year because the walnuts were falling like crazy! We did the Woodland Trail and it was a nice hike. We also stayed at site 58 and the road noise was the only downside. It’s close to the bathrooms and playground so if you have kids keeping an eye on them should be pretty easy. If you arrive late at night like we did, it gets SUPER dark and we had a little trouble backing into our site (our fault, not theirs!).

We went for a weekend and we were pleasantly surprised. The hiking trails were nice, sites were clean. Our kids reserved a 3-wheel bike (Banana bikes). Nice place for dogs too.
Be warned: extra fees when you arrive. No cell coverage-Verizon
