“preserving items from all American wars & skirmishes”
The War Vet Museum is sponsored by the Canfield American Legion Post 177 and The Ladies Auxiliary. The purpose of the museum is to collect and preserve items from and the history of all American wars and skirmishes. And, to preserve the history of the US Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and the American Legion. By bringing war items and history of all these wars together in one place, it brings veterans together and brings a greater understanding to the public of what the wars were about and the sacrifices made by these veterans. These wars were fought for different reasons but all the veterans sacrified and fought for our country. They did not ask what can my country do for me, but what can I do for my country! THESE VETERANS SHOULD BE REMEMBERED! The museum is their memorial. A historic house built is 1809 is the Museum's home. Located near The Green, this beautiful home is an asset to Canfield. Robert and Maxine Neff donated $45,000.00 to purchase the home. Past owners were Magatt, Church, Nash and Flickinger. Currently, seventeen rooms house over 36,000 donated items. On the grounds of the museum inscribed bricks pave the way to the Wall of Honor which is adorned with brass plaques paying tribute to individual veterans. These brick pavers and brass plaques are available for purchase by anyone wishing to memorialize their loved one.
