“Fine dining and experiences”

The Inn Between Restaurant was opened in May 1972.  Before that time the “Munro Home”, as it was originally known, had changed hands at least five times when it was taken over by the present owners. This site was the manor house of the Munro family whose ancestry dates back to Scotland.  The house was the hub of all activities during the day and yet offered a restful haven in the evening after a hard day’s work in the fields. Thomas Hill Munro built his home in 1880 shortly after his marriage to Nellie Brown in 1875.  The land on which the house was built was part of a farm owned by his father David Allen Munro.  The Munro family is recognized as having a large role in the history of Onondaga County and in particular the Elbridge-Camillus area.In 1799, the same year that the Town of Camillus was formed, Squire Munro moved here from Cheshire,Mass. to work his newly acquired farm land.  It stretched for 300 acres over rolling hills which were densely populated with trees.  Squire Munro, a soldier in the revolutionary War, was one of four sons of John Munro.  Another of the brothers arriving at that time was the grandfather of the fifth President of theUnited States, James Munro, who was in office from 1816 to 1824.The road on which the Inn Between is located was also surveyed and constructed by the Munros.  And at one time was the northeast branch of the Seneca Turnpike.  A large cow barn erected at the same time once stood on the west side of the building while other barns and tenant houses were built on the other side of the road.Thomas Hill Munro Jr., born 1876, was a graduate of the class of 1899 at Syracuse University.  After his marriage to Phoebe Isabelle Ellis in 1902, he took over his father’s farm and became interested in breeding and developing prize-winning Guernsey cattle.   Cattle breeding became a noted talent with the Munros along with their great amount of participation in town, county, and state government as well as in business and public affairs.Thomas Hill Munro, Jr. died in 1939, leaving his wife Phoebe, to continue living here until 1945 when the place was sold and the last of the Munros left this lovely old home. The large cow barn burned to the ground in the late 1950’s.  However, the old pump well still stands to remind us all of these hard working farm days.  Days when the beautiful countryside was streaked with dirt and cobble roads along which the farm hands used to go as far as Onondaga Lake to bring the wandering cows home.At present, the Inn Between upholds a reputation for splendid dining in a relaxed country setting.  Our certified executive chefs are the recipients of numerous awards for their culinary achievements.  Our professional service staff will compliment your dining experience with their knowledge and expertise. The charm and ambience of our three main dining rooms offers a perfect setting for an enjoyable dinner. They include a cozy paneled library with a warm fireplace, an elegant dining room with an antique chandelier and fireplace, and a pine paneled porch overlooking the surrounding countryside and nature preserve.  Thru large windows in the dining room and on the porch you may enjoy watching white tail deer grazing. The graceful winding staircase leads to the Munro Room located on our second floor.  The Munro Room offers a perfect setting for fine dining as well as private parties.Today we invite you to graciously and leisurely dine with us.  Please join us to enjoy the same restful moments in the evening as did the early Munros.

Yum! This was a great meal. Everything I had was exceptional. To start, I liked that they gave us fresh veggies with dip - better than filling up on bread :). For appetizers, I'd definitely... Read more
