We circled two times, parked, moved, and finally settled on a site that was the most level of most that were just awkwardly arranged and looked unsafe. We travel in a 2016 Winnebago View, which, unfortunately doesn’t include stabilizer jacks. I told my husband not to bother with blocks (we were that disgusted). One site had boards at the back of the “dirt parking spot” that if you backed in too far, literally your rv would fall through. There is a tree that was cut down right outside the door with a huge slab of trunk laying there obviously no one bothered to remove it. Metal gas cans in a makeshift unprotected “fire pit”. This place VERY SORELY needs a good inspection. For a city park with a seemingly nice pool, it’s obvious where the money was spent, on that pool, not this campground, so badly in disrepair. If we hadn’t been on the road for so long, definitely we would have kept driving on (perhaps you should also!)

Located in town of Buena Vista, 10 minutes from the Pkwy. it is a city park in an large open field with water and electric hookups, bath house with showers and wifi! The sites are just in an open field with a view of the mountains, little league baseball practices and number of permanent residents. Due the it being a large field you can back in or pull thru with any size rig. It is on the former property of a land owner whose house still exists. Price was discounted with Passport membership. Great spot for a stop over or base to explore the Parkway. Would definitely stay here again when in the area.

The above rate reflects a 50% Passport America discount. Thank goodness. Spending $40 to stay in the upper campground would have been robbery!
Unfortunately, when I was here in late June, the lower campground was closed for maintenance. A real shame -- after spending several days fighting to get level in the Blue Ridge Parkway campgrounds, a nice, flat field of grass was calling to me. Instead I got more levelling woes "up top!!"
The upper campground, according to the very nice, helpful and friendly host, had just been "renovated." That must mean some gravel has been haphazardly spread over the old dirt pads - I guess. The bath house is horrible. There is also a good deal of noise from the public swimming pool which is located near the top loop of the campground.
The upper campground is very hilly, which made getting into a site challenging. The fact that some of the sites were facing the wrong way to back into didn't help matters any. Neither did the utilities on the wrong side of site 32, which I didn't discover until I was ready to haul out the ole levelling blocks.
In the end, the host pointed me to Site 8 and it isn't too bad. It actually has a paved surface and is much closer to level than any of the other sites. And SCORE - it was the only site which had a picnic table!!
For $22 bucks with water and electric, it's hard to complain too much. There is a dump station near the entrance. But there is no way I would ever come back here if I had to camp in the Upper Campground. The lower one looks like it would be perfectly fine as long as there were no special events or rallies taking place there.
