“a beautiful peaceful spot”
Back in 1932, when the Green Trails Inn was established, Pond Village was a beautiful peaceful spot, centrally located, yet remote. Today, Pond village retains its quietude and beauty, but it is now one of Vermont's most convenient locales. Ten minutes from Interstate 89, 20 minutes from Montpelier, the state's capital, and less than an hour from Burlington--as well as the states's major ski trails--the inn offers a low key alternative for a relaxing vacation year round. Its c.1840 farmhouse faces the historic Floating Bridge, Sunset Lake, and Ariels, one of Vermonts best restaurants. Recreational opportunities abound: Sunset lake (across the road) is a pastoral spot in which to swim, fish, kayak, and canoe. Nearby is wonderful mountain biking, hiking, groomed cross country skiing trails and snowshoeing. Minutes away from Norwich University, Vermont Technical College, and Vermont Law School. This year professional cookbook author Jane Doerfer purchased the eight bedroom inn, and remodeled and refurbished it with new beds, linens and other amenities. Guests can read or sit by the fire in the inn's great room, play board games in the breakfast space, or relax in the inn's secluded living room or rear deck. Books and magazines are everywhere. Rather than requiring a set time for breakfast, Doerfer offers a Northern European breakfast buffet with home baking to be enjoyed at the guests' convenience.
