“an engineering wonder!”
See the actual bucket from Big Muskie, which was the World's Largest Dragline and one of the seven engineering wonders of the world! It has even been featured on the History Channel! The Bucket weighs 460,000 pounds empty and carried an additional 640,000 pounds when loaded. Its volume is equal to that of a twelve car garage. The artifact is now the centerpiece of Miner's Memorial Park, which pays tribute to the mining men and women of Southeastern Ohio. This one-of-a-kind historical site has been designated by the state of Ohio as a "Great Ohio Adventure of Learning" and is only 16 miles West of Caldwell I-77 Exit 25 and right along SR 78. Visit the memorial to find out why it attracts people from all over the world. Park your car next to the bucket and get a picture of your family in it. We guarantee you'll be captured forever with fascination and disbelief. No admission charge!
Can you imagine a digging scoop big enough to dig a swimming pool in one swipe? Well Big Muskie could have done that. Of course it would have squished a few houses getting to your back yard. On the scale of big, this takes the cake.
Awesome out of the way attraction. Also lots of free camping nearby .
Very cool. If you're in the area definitely worth the stop.
It is worth a detour to see. At least four people stacked up would not reach the top.
It seemed like we would never reach the destination, there was only one sign when we got off the highway that said Big Muske Bucket, 17 miles down the road. I swear we were on that road longer, there needs to be more signs saying how much farther the driver has to go!
