“beautifully scenic marshes”
A mecca for birdwatchers every spring and fall, this peninsula south of Brighton is a major flyway for migrating birds, home to waterfowl and shorebirds, and a staging point for Mexico-bound monarch butterflies. A long boardwalk crosses wetlands where marsh birds live and fish spawn. On islands to the west, colonies of gulls, cormorants, terns and herons nest. Presqu’ile Provincial Park is also widely known for their exceptional camping facilities and outdoor activities and attractions. This campground is a great location for families and groups, offering electric hookup, flush toilets, showers, day-use picnic areas, a visitor’s centre, gift shop, boat launches, and barrier free access for those with disabilities. The Natural Heritage Education centre also offers kids program in the summer and features other hiking, swimming, biking, and wildlife activities. Another famous attraction in the park includes Ontario's second-oldest operating lighthouse and the original lighthouse keeper's cottage. The lighthouse is situated on the eastern point of the peninsula and features an educational interpretive centre.
We camped here 3 years ago. Sites are far apart at campgrounds and the park is quite large. We loved the sand dunes, marshes and beaches. Especially loved playing in the waves of the great lake. Water was warm and it felt great! Its good to have time to explore around here. Also, the park setting is very tranquil.
