Reviews
This was one of the most expensive things we did on our New England trip. It was fun to do, not thrilling exactly - but interesting and the views at the top of the mountain were fantastic.
The day we went, Father's day 2018 was clear. we could see all the way down to the valley. I am told that is not the norm. Usually, you are above the clouds is what we heard.
You get some time to look around before they take you back down. Ride up takes longer than the ride down it seemed like. At the base station there is a large store to browse while you wait, and at the top too - besides the scenery there are shops and buildings to visit. You can hike up the mountain and ride down... just be aware the hike will take you all day! Go to their website to get the details. We did see lots of people hiking and some with younger kids so I think it's probabably doable if you have the time.
The Mount Washington Cog Railway is a historic steam train that was built in 1869 to serve the needs of a tourism boom. There were several luxury hotels built in the White Mountains that were considered “Grand Hotels,” and the railway took guests to and from these hotels. The train was the first mountain-climbing cog railway in the world, and the second steepest.
While only two of the Grand Hotels are still operating today, the Cog Railway is still taking tourists to the summit of Mount Washington. The train runs all year long, but only goes to the top during the warmer months, typically from May through October. During the colder months, the railway still operates but on a shorter track.
A trip to the top of Mount Washington and back takes approximately 3 hours and includes a 1-hour intermission so you can explore the summit.
We think a ride on the railway is one of the best things to do in Lincoln, NH!
Enjoyed the experience... looked like a very popular site for young & old. We recommend the site!!
