“land treasured for centuries”
On land treasured for centuries - first by Native Americans, later by traders and farmers, and as early as the 1890s by recreation seekers - Kankakee River State Park offers visitors its proud heritage in an unspoiled setting. Anglers, canoeists, hunters, campers, hikers, bicyclers and other outdoor enthusiasts find the park's recreational opportunities unsurpassed. The naturally channeled Kankakee River, listed on the Federal Clean Streams Register, is the focus of the park's popularity.Enveloping both sides of the Kankakee River for 11 miles, in an area 6 miles northwest of Kankakee, the park consists of approximately 4,000 acres. Illinois Routes 102 on the north and 113 on the south frame the park, with Interstates 55 and 57 both providing convenient access.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on August 17, 2021Excited the campground finally reopened. Sites are very private and heavily wooded. Bathrooms are dated but clean.
We biked a lot.
Only 2 loops were open. We rode our bikes through the closed loops and they look amazing as well. Not sure what’s the hold up but will be back often.

I live in downtown Chicago and had never been here before. The website didn’t have any site photos so I took a gamble. I’m in love with 50% of the sites. There are some that are awkward or would be awful with a trailer due to trees or branches. But great for a tent or if you are camping near friends. I love privacy and some grassy space for my dogs. This has both. Only electrical hookups. But that’s all I need. 2 bars for AT&T and 1 bar with an occasional 2 for T-Mobile. But enough for me to work remotely without having to go into town. So I’m happy!

Great park with a great trail...... but if you enjoy peace and quiet do not come Friday and Saturday because it is loud and smokey. Practically every site had a campfire.
I would come back during the week

We live nearby and decided to get away from home for a few days. Some of the sites have a lot of shade while others are full sun. The sites have 30 and 15 amp electric. There is a dump station and a place to fill your fresh water tank near the entrance.
The host was great, she told us that we probably would have needed a reservation if we were staying on a weekend.

Some sites are private. Most have shade (lots of trees in park). They are deceptively unlevel. I couldn’t get my 19’ van label using blocks. 2bars LTE Verizon. Some OTA tv.
Bike path is partly paved, partly crushed stone, easy for narrow tires. Lots of shade. It’s the best part of campground/park.
There is only one bathhouse in whole camp. It is large, but dated and dirty. Moldly shower curtains. Mold in grout. Floor and shower stalls hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Water is hot with adequate pressure in most stalls (check pressure first).
