“Home of the Edgar Allen Poe Statue”
The Edgar Allan Poe Foundation of Boston seeks to honor Poe in the city where he was born on January 19, 1809. Our focus has been on raising the funds needed to create and install Stefanie Rocknak’s Poe Returning to Boston, a goal that we reached in March of 2014. The statue is now being fabricated at New England Sculpture Services in Chelsea, MA, for installation in Poe Square at the intersection of Boylston Street and Charles Street South, which Mayor Thomas M. Menino dedicated to the famous author in 2009. Chosen in 2012 from among 265 proposals, Rocknak’s sculpture shows Poe walking towards the house his parents were living in around the time he was born. Represented here by the full sized, clay sculpture, the statue will be cast in bronze and unveiled on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 2 pm.
