Confirmed by 6 users | Last reported on September 15, 2023If you want out of the way and quiet this is the place. We have been there several times. First time was last summer we stayed 5 days. Wen-Fri our family was the only one there. 2 came in and tent camped on fri night, one on sat night.
Hiking trails are nice, little steep in a couple places.
Grass was mowed, trash bins where empty. All the pads are paved.
They have 3 ranges, pistol, rifle and skeet.
Memorial day weekend we stayed 4 days. Most sites used was 7 total. Could here gunfire from the range but it wasn't loud enough to be annoying.

How can you really be negative about a free campsite? We stayed at site number 7, it was level enough for us not to be bothered. Each site has picnic tables and a fire ring. There are toilets but we didn’t use them.
The only negatives for us: mosquitos and the humid heat. We are from the bay area so we don’t do as well with the heat as maybe someone that’s from around the eastern states.
But we still enjoyed the site. Lots of fireflies which was really exciting.

Basic campground. A place to park if you have a large vehicle or rv. Bathroom was heavily used and covered with flies, we didn’t use it. Plenty of trash bins. Picnic tables and fire pits at each site. Sites are close together. There are a couple hiking trails. We came yesterday and stayed one night 8/15-8/16. no sprint cell service. The address isn’t exact. Follow the road signs for the fern wood park.

I stayed here over the weekend and enjoyed my experience here. It's very quiet and peaceful to be at. The shooting range was closed making it an even better stay. I would stay here again. the reason I give the site two stars is because my fire pit was used as a trash can and I had taken the time to clean it out. I think the pit latrine could get a good scrub down and the use of a shower stall would be nice improvements to the campground. All in all it was great to stay because it's free.

Hidden gem! Paved road in. Paved pads. Very nice picnic tables and fire pits. We camped in a 25ft travel trailer. Very nice gun ranges near by. Not really a nuisance. Vaulted toilets is available but no potable water. The well seems dry. All free! There were several campers that left there tents on there sites while they went home for the week. But still plenty of spots.

We needed a free place to stay and work(close to Pittsburg for grocery delivery & good WiFi for online work) for a couple of weeks before our journey to AZ. The limit here is 14 days, it has a pit toilet(which we didn’t use so we don’t have details). There were plenty of sites and it was mostly quiet. There is a non-potable water spigot but it says clearly on it to not use for even washing. I’m not even sure if it works because we didn’t even bother trying. Instead, we asked permission at the laundromat when we did our wash to fill our water jugs and just conserved as best as we could. There is a pit for dumping waste water(not black water) in the grounds. We used our honey wagon for black tank and dumped at the Flying J on our way out.
There is everything you could ever need in Wintersville and Steubenville. The Kroger in Steubenville is massive and has a better selection than the Wintersville one. There is an RV repair shop called Murphs RV that sells propane at a great price close by in Richmond.
Some people complained about the shooting range that you can hear from your camp, but it didn’t bother me much. You can hear it, but it’s not ridiculously loud and usually stopped by nightfall.
One last thing, we unintentionally arrived at night so it was a bit tricky finding the exact location. Best to arrive during the day but if you can’t, follow the previous commenters direction of following directions to Fernwood Forest Campground by taking Bloomingdale exit off of 22 and making a left. Then turn left at first blinking light(which wasn’t blinking at our time of arrival), go short distance and turn left between two cemeteries, go about 2 miles and you will see a sign for Fernwood Forest Campground. You will most likely be seeing Fernwood signs by now. This way you won’t be driving in circles trying to find Hidden Hollow.
Also, once you follow the signs for Fernwood Forest, if you are coming in at dark, you will come to a road block that says closed, just turn left here and the campground is right there. We were a bit nervous turning here because we are long and didn’t want to get stuck somewhere and it’s hard to see but luckily it was exactly where we needed to be.

we thought 1st weekend in November would be a great time to visit, wrong.
It was deer camp season which is not all bad, but it looked like shanty town, utility trailers with tarps. trash strewn about, Deer carcasses hanging from trees. also had a fair amount of people who looked like they were living in their cars.
decided to move to another state park.

Beautiful site in the rolling hills of OH. Easy access, pull in and done. Very nice after a long day of driving. We arrived a week after the mass shooting in Uvalde, TX. There is a shooting range close by and it is hard to sit here listening to the gunshots. My heart is breaking for all the 10 year olds lost and their families.

We stopped here to load up on things we needed from Amazon, there is a hub (Silverware) about 18 mins away via car and the post office is 5 mins away to pick up deliveries. The mall is about 20 mins away less by car and has all the shopping needs available. Groceries pet supplies, etc.
We had good phone connection with T-Mobile but the internet for school went out a few times. We also found a convenient store around the corner from the post office.
Doordashers will deliver, offer cash tip and their on the way. We had a bout of stinkbugs toward the end of our stay would be my only complaint. The gun ranges didn't bother me at all, but boy do they like to shoot around here. Lol.
Facilities were a mess but a crew came up the same day and cleaned them very well. Each plot has a firepit, bench and table. Also has 2 cans for trash which was emptied most days. Most driveways were pretty level and are asphalt.

We arrive well after dark but had no problem getting situated in a site. Filled out the appropriate paperwork and had a great spot. Just a beautiful area and free.!
