Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on October 05, 2023This campground is family friendly and allows pets. The family that owns it lives close by and doesn’t mind late check-ins. Most of the sites are 30amp with water and there is a dump station on the way out. They also offer some tent sites and even a boon-docking area. The cell service was fine for phone calls but internet was almost nonexistent. The campground also offers tubing and a bus to bring you back after going down river. The water is clean and clear and is just a short walk away from most sites. We will definitely be back for some peace and relaxation. However there are multiple trains that go by on both sides of the campground. After a few times, we didn’t even notice the ones across the water.

Nice grassy & flat back-in sites. Each site is on the riverbank. Most have shade trees over the picnic table and grassy rivers edge seating area. They run a river tubing operation so summer weekends will have lots of tubers during the day. River was too high when we visited so they weren’t doing any tubing... and it was quiet and peaceful. There were frequent trains on both sides of the river but they really didn’t bother us.

Beautiful little campground on the New River. 30A/water hookups with an incredible view. Train is a little annoying if you’re outside - they’re required to blow the whistle due to the train crossing - but not bothersome when inside your rig. Fish the New, or just float down the river.

Beautiful river and Mountain View. Smaller but adequate sites. Very helpful owners. There are trains, they do run at night and they do blow their horns but they didn’t bother us much.

I rarely write reviews because well, I rarely read them. Terrible, I know.
However, this time, I learned my lesson and for future trips I will always read reviews prior to booking. My daughter was attending the FFA State convention and we wanted to be present, so we booked a site for a few days at a campground close to VA Tech. The site had limited photos, limited information, but I was able to book it online and move on to the next thing on my to do list. The next morning, I received an email from Rover Pass with my confirmation details. I scrolled down and read the worst possible reviews ever. I panicked and realized there was no possible way I could take my family to the campground I had booked underneath 81 within 10 minutes of VA Tech.
Fast fwd, this time I researched and found New River Junction. I viewed the photos, the reviews, and called to make the reservation and ask additional questions. The gentleman that answered was kind, professional, and understanding. We immediately felt so much better about our upcoming trip. Arrival day, it was down pour on our way but the representative from NRJ sent a text to see what time we would be arriving to ensure he was there when we arrived. Again, super nice and a personal touch. When we arrived, we immediately realized this is the place for us. Quiet, peaceful. Clean. Just nice honest people running a campground where your family comes to make memories. It didn’t feel like a business transaction, or like you had to guard your belongings on your campsite. It felt like we’d been there before only we hadn’t.
It was really awesome to see and hear the trains going by. Though the trains come by all hours of the day/night and yes it is a bit noisy, it wasn’t a nuisance. We would actually run over to view the train and count the cars.
The grass was beautiful! Backing up to the river and waking up to the sounds of nature was really peaceful. Though our time at NRJ was short, we’ve all agreed we will definitely be returning!
We had limited cell service, Xfinity mobile, but we were able to text and hop on wifi if/when needed. My youngest was able to connect the TV to wifi so watch Netflix at night.

The river view was beautiful and this could have been a very relaxing place had it not been for being between two railroad tracks with trains coming all through the day and night. The nearest railroad crossing is very close and the train blew its horn every time it went through which was extremely loud and scared my poor dog to death. No one got much sleep. There are a few campsites on the grass. We were on a very unloved gravel site. All sites were very close together and there was no privacy. Don't go here if you want to relax! Campground is old with few amenities. Access is difficult, especially if you have a big rig.

Quiet and peaceful. Beautiful view. Showers were ok. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. On the water with Mountain View’s. Follow the map they send and don’t rely on gps as much. WiFi worked most of time.
