Toad Suck is an unincorporated community in Perry County, Arkansas, United States. It is the location of (or is the nearest community to) Bigelow Rosenwald School, which is located at the junction of Arkansas Highway 60 and Bethel AME Road and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The origin of the name Toad Suck is disputed. Some hold it received the name when idle rivermen would congregate at the local tavern where they would "suck on the bottle 'til they swell up like toads", while others believe it is a corruption of a French phrase meaning "a narrow channel in the river." Toad Suck has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. The community lent its name to the Toad Suck Ferry Lock and Dam on the Arkansas River. The dam is also a bridge bringing AR 60, locally named Prince Street, across the river. The Bigelow Rosenwald School is inland west of the river while Toad Suck Road is east of the river. Toad Suck Daze is an annual fair that raises funds for scholarships. First organized in 1982, the festival is held annually in nearby downtown Conway during the first weekend in May. Originally held at Toad Suck Park near the Arkansas River Lock and Dam, the festival was moved to the downtown location in 1990 due to flooding at the river and has remained in the downtown area ever since.

Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on December 25, 2021We have been driving by the TOAD SUCK PARK sign for 36 yrs. Just got a MH and we stayed here on the way home in mid Sept.. The park had been flooded in Jan or Feb. of this year, but have made a great recovery. Great sites with lots of shade along the AR River locks & dam...I had taken tons of pics, but they were somehow lost after download so this is upsetting. Want to come back and spend lots of days/nights here. Have a boat ramp, covered picnic areas you can rent, shower/bathrooms.

This is a nice Army Core of Engineers Campground. The $10 rate was with the Senior Pass discount. Otherwise it's $20.
Getting into the campground is a little confusing. When coming from the east/Conway, take the first right after you cross over the Arkansas River, even though the campground can be seen on the left. There are no signs indicating to take that road to the campground. This road will take you under the bridge and into the campground.
We were there in February, the off season. The office is staffed between 3 and 5 by the camp host. We had to pick a site, then go back when the office is open to register and pay.
Set on the edge of the Arkansas River, every site has a view. The roads and sites are paved blacktop. Each one has a covered picnic table, fire ring, and a concrete pedestal for your grill. Most sites have 50 amps and water. There was no campground map available upon arrival, so I'll scan the one I have and include it with my pictures.
There is a playground and a sports field. We didn't check out the restrooms. The Verizon signal was strong and I pulled in a good number of TV stations from Little Rock.
Make sure you go back across the river and check out the lock. If you are lucky, you can see a tug push barges through it.

What a nice spot. 'Wish we could have stayed longer here. Our site was on the water and level but not all of the sites are level. Also, make sure you have an extra water hose with you because the water hook-ups are rather far away on some of the sites. The bathrooms are big - shower and toilet combined - and pristine. Shopping and restaurants are only 2.5miles away and yet camping here is like being far away from the hussle and bussel of the town. (The price we paid reflects the Senior pass discount price.)

This was our first COE campground - spacious, huge central area, and only the occasional tug toot in the night.
Water at the site (and an adjacent one) was quite murky - it looked more like tea than water - so we stayed with our own fresh water tank.
You certainly can’t beat the price - or the name!

This park is right at a lock and dam. We pulled into our site, the boys jumped out and grabbed a fishing pole. It was a perfect shaded, quiet campground. The guys that checked us in felt like we would not fit into our site, but we fit perfectly. They were super nice guys!
There is only one stall bathroom and shower, but we did not use it.

This is a nice park- clean, lots of trees, reasonable spacing between most sites, paved/level sites, and offers a nice view of the river. We would definitely stay here again, but we'd likely pick a different site... A6 is level with a nice river view off the passenger window, but it was work putting a 40' 5th wheel into the site (had the site across from ours between occupied, we would have had significant trouble backing in). All of the sites include a picnic table and grill (ours was also 50amp and water) and some table have a cover as well. There is a dumb station near the exit that a big rig should be able to access.

Stayed here in a 38 foot motorhome in one of the nicest sites in the park - B08. Sites vary between little and a lot of shade. Most are level, but a few may take a bit of work to level up. Our site at water and 50-amp service and there is a dump station near the entrance.
Since this is a federal facility (Corps of Engineers), a 50% discount is available with a Senior Pass. $10/night is a bargain. Interesting to watch the dam operation and you see people fishing from the bank.
No WiFi, but our Verizon LTE connection was as good as it gets.

This is a beautiful setting alongside the Arkansas river. Even when the grounds were mostly full, it did not feel crowded or busy or noisy. Bathroom and shower accommodations were unbelievably clean.
Our particular spot C-06 had no covering over the picnic table whereas all the others seemed to have one. It was clearly removed for some reason. There was nice shade at different points in the day from the big trees near us. Also, the spot had a fairly steep incline making it tough for us (first timers) to get the camper level from off the hitch. The interior spots at the park all seemed perfectly level. Looking at the other riverside spaces, most others seems to be at less of an incline, but tough to know for sure.
All that said, it is a great camping area to stay in. 50/30 power at the site and city water. Dump station near the front entrance.

We ended up here because the name made me laugh. We had to see it and it totally paid off. Gorgeous. Right on the Arkansas River locks. Our site is paved and level with a huge paved patio, picnic table, and fire pit/grill. Water and electric hookups only, but there’s a dump station. The bathroom/showers were a surprise because they were private! There were four (2 mens/2 womens) in each building with 3 buildings in the campground. They weren’t sparkling clean but it’s over the holidays so I’m giving them grace on that. We slept with the windows open and heard nothing but crickets and the water flowing. We’re here in December but it appears that all sites would be shaded in the summer because the place is buried in trees! Great price for a really picturesque stay. Totally recommend.

We stopped just for a night during a bomb cyclone snow storm and had no trouble getting to the park or our site (although the bridge over the Arkansas River was steep and icy). The host called to confirm we'd be arriving, and walked straight out to give us our sticker when he saw us. The park was very well maintained and quite pretty. Bathroom/showers were clean and spacious. Our site was a paved back in site with good room between each site. Watch out for the "dips" and "bumps"! Take them slow. I look forward to staying again in nicer weather. $10 price reflects the $10 Senior Interagency Pass discount.
