“Celebrating the American spirit”
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art welcomes all to celebrate the American spirit in a setting that unites the power of art with the beauty of landscape. We explore the unfolding story of America by actively collecting, exhibiting, interpreting, and preserving outstanding works that illuminate our heritage and artistic possibilities. The Museum, founded in 2005 by Alice Walton who chairs the board of directors, takes its name from nearby Crystal Spring and the bridge construction incorporated in the building design by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie. A series of pavilions nestled around two creek-fed ponds house galleries, meeting and classroom spaces, and a large, glass-enclosed gathering hall.
Agree that the architecture is its showpiece. The sculpture is pretty great, too. Admission is free and if you like art this is worth a stop. I'd give it 40% on the funometer.
Amazing gem in the Ozarks! Visitors can get an understanding of the history of American art with works by many major artists. The museum also brings in exhibits from much larger cities. The architecture alone is worth a stop. Be sure to explore the lovely trails outside the museum.
This establishment was a HUGE deal when it was brought to our area and people from all over come to see it. If your into art it's awesome, however for us we love the average around it! I highly recommend packing a picnic and walking the paved trail, there are neat little things along the way to see. also each plant is labeled and it's fun to see how many different kind there are! We also love the restaurant inside, upscale but fantastic!
The architecture here is a must see! Also the paintings are wonderful! You should not miss this place if you are passing through. Also check out hotel 21c (for those that love modern art).
Beautiful showplace of various art forms. No charge, except for specific exhibits brought to display. Wonderful grounds & trails to walk & discover nature & art exhibits along trails!
What a surprise!!!! A wonderful art museum which feels like it should be in Europe. A great collection of art with a free admission. The building is spectacular. The designers took nature in consideration. There are several nature trails on the campus. You could easily spend a couple of days to do everything between the art and the trails. The restaurant prices are abit steep, but standard for museum food. Our sandwich, coke and coffee was good. My only complaint was the patrons....they move too fast from piece to piece and they love to get REALLY close to the art. Not use to that. If you are in area, or thinking of coming to Northwest Arkansas, come to Crystal Bridges.
I lived near Crystal Bridges for nearly a year. The museum itself is great, with a variety of exhibits that changed every few months. The curator does a great job to bring in works from famous artists, and most of the time admission is free (there is sometimes a charge for special exhibits). Additionally, the museum sponsors a variety of free social events throughout the year. Outside of the museum are a number of wonderful hiking trails that pass outdoor sculptures and bridges over the natural creeks. I would see people relaxing in hammocks all over the surrounding forest by the museum. Definitely add this to your list of stops if you are near Northwest Arkansas.
Wonderful collection. Be sure to call ahead for tickets to the Frank Lloyd Wright house. We also walked the trails in the morning and it was a beautiful, peaceful hike.
World class museum!
The museum and its art were beautiful and the trails were easy but fun. The staff was less than friendly but hey maybe it was a bad day or we look like people who touch art who knows.
