“honors the Allied forces that participated in the invasion of Normandy”

Located in Bedford, Virginia— the town suffering the highest per capita D-Day losses in the nation. The National D-Day Memorial honors the Allied forces that participated in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 during World War II. With its stylized English Garden, haunting invasion tableau, and striking Victory Plaza, the Memorial stands as a powerful permanent tribute to the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of D-Day participants. Surrounded by the beautiful majestic Blue Ridge mountains, this makes for a solemn and respectful tribute for our fallen heroes

It is a huge memorial park, giving you plenty of room to walk around silently observing without being disturb. It is gorgeous and solemn and makes you understand the depth of sacrifice made on D-Day.

There's loads of diagrams all around the 88-acre memorial. Definitely plan on spending at least an entire afternoon, if not a day there. And be respectful. In the center of the memorial there's a recreation of an invasion beach, where there's a landing craft complete with an open ramp and water explodes randomly to simulate mortar fire.

This memorial is gorgeous and moving. I highly recommend taking time to see this memorial. It was very educational, very spread out and quiet.

Impressive and awe inspiring memorial to the many lives lost as well as those who fought and lived through D-day to continue the fight to end the war. Leaves you with a deep sense of gratitude for all that we have living in this country today.

Great stop to get out and stretch your legs. The memorial is a great reminder of what our young men and women endured. Lots of information on D-Day and operation overload.

This is a great memorial of those who served in WWII. Especially those on D-Day. Our tour guide had lots of stories to share about how this memorial came to be. We took our children. They had read about WWII but this amazing memorial brought it to life for them. It was extra special to get to be here since my husband's grandpa jumped on D-Day.
