Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on September 20, 2023Loved this campground. The lakefront sites are gorgeous, it has been nearly empty all week here (Early June). It is walking distance to town.
There are a few sites which would take large rigs, and probably 2/3 we could get into with our 25’ Airstream.
While we were here, there was free firewood, and a lot of sites also had 20a power.
Cell signal was great, with 60mbit download speeds on Verizon and 15mbit on AT&T.

We stayed here 4 nights starting on August 30, 2018. I think all the sites are first come, first serve. We were in site 1 which was large and level but it also contained one of the public water faucets. Site 2 was also very level. There were about 5 more sites that were on Lake Superior that were level but most of the other sites had some slope. It is a very wooded campground about 20 ft above l the lake. There are 4 steep road inclines within the camping area. If you have a large rig you might want to walk the campground instead of driving. Town was only maybe a 1/2 mile away. There were 6 or 7 places to eat. A nice waterfront to walk along and we enjoyed the town very much. We could have stayed here another 4 or 5 days exploring the area and the islands.

We loved this park for it's access to Bayfield and the views from our windows!
Just a few things to add to others' reviews:
Many of the sites are difficult if you need to find a level spot. But: if you're unhappy with your choice, just wait a day, it's very likely that a better one will open up.
It's .6 miles to Bayfield from the park entrance. There's a bike lane there too.
Be sure to leave something behind if you are reserving a site and not setting up camp. We saw someone's reservation get moved while they were away.
Site 22 has electric (not all do) and has a path down to the water next to it.

Beautiful campground on hills next to Lake Superior, some sites with great lake views, but no real access to the lake other than a steep path to water (no beach). Roads mostly paved, but rough, narrow and steep. Many sites are quite unlevel and rooted. Very popular and often full in mid-week in mid-August. First come first served, although a few sites were reserved by special groups during our visit. Pit toilets, trash service, electric in some sites, city water spigots spread around (but not in sites). No dump station. Free firewood. Quiet, dark and pretty smoky in evenings. Many tenters and some smaller RVs/trailers. It would be difficult to maneuver or find a site for large rigs. Very close to the cute resort town of Bayfield. The shuttle for the Big Top Chautauqua concerts stops here on event nights.

Love this campground. The sites all have electric and there are six or so that are on a bluff right above Lake Superior overlooking Madeline Island. Some of the upper level sites can accommodate rigs up to 30 feet long. The lower level sites are slightly smaller. If your rig is over 24 feet, I'd not recommend the lower level sites as it can be difficult to park, turnaround, etc.

Lots of pretty trees but you can’t see the water from the campground and the spots are very small and almost impossible to get level on. The road is also very tight and windy. I would not recommend that longer trailers, fifth wheels or big class A’s try and get in this place.

The campground was peaceful, with only a few RVs and tents. We tried three different sites before the one we chose-we were unable to level our 20 foot travel trailer. A beautiful area!!!

Like the previous reviewer we had to try three different sites before I could love of my 24 foot travel trailer…. even in the best sight in the camp, number 22, I still had to pull out my levelers. Campground was half full upon arrival and everybody had pretty much every single piece of leveling equipment out on their rigs big and small🙄
Pros: quiet, lake views sometimes, artesian well water that you can fill up your tank with, fire pits, picnic tables, close to town, check out at noon, pleasant camp host around during the day, short trail down to the lake with a picnic table and three separate benches clean, pretty much the only other campsite choice in town and for $30 you get electric and water fill up.

Cons: extremely unlevel everywhere, (I spent an hour and a half and two sides trying to get level which was impossible - this is not how I wish to spend my vacation and left me frustrated. Especially when it’s completely unnecessary ) even the picnic table is downhill about 5 inches on one side, the asphalt roads are deplorable, Lots of steep hills and I bottomed out my generator platform on the end of my 24 foot trailer coming out of one of the campsites, while you have a Lakeview they aren’t kidding when they say heavily wooded campsite so your views are extremely limited and so is your solar , Low hanging branches and branches encrouching on the road and in some of the campsites - so definitely watch out to not scratch your rig, Heard construction noise about 7 AM from the town but very quiet and peaceful through the night, campground full by evening, Electric posts are far far away - either they didn’t want to think that through or they didn’t want to pay the money to put them in the proper places🤷♀️🙄 dirt sites so you will be tracking dirt and even with a carpet👎
Verizon cell service two bars of LTE with 68 up , 23 down. Decent Internet service but everything ran a bit slow.
Took the national Lakeshore tour with the Park service for $49. Greatly disappointing because basically it was a very long boat ride with 20 minutes at the sea caves. If you can afford $100 private tour that would be much better.

Cute campground with a variety of sites. Several have lake views, others are in little wooded coves. Most sites are small and very uneven. Bring leveling blocks! Also, sites can be tight and close together. Rustic toilets that can smell a bit depending on which way the wind is blowing. Excellent Verizon service. Close to town, firewood readily available from locals.

Very pleased with this campground! Host was nice and visited the grounds daily. “Papa Dave” drove through the area and sold firewood for less than what you could buy at a gas station elsewhere. Bayfield tourist attractions are only 1/2 mile away from the campground entrance. We were pleasantly surprised that over the last weekend in June only 1/4 of the sites were occupied. We did notice that while we had 1-3 bars of Verizon LTE most of the time the bandwidth was so low that data was unusable at times. This may be an issue for those ful-timers. Sites 1&2 were the only ones that could accommodate our 30’ travel trailer. Tent campers and teardrops will be able to use most any site. Those with 24’ or greater rigs will have a limited selection of sites. It does appear they are working on adding more sites on the west side of the campground (north of site 18)
