Confirmed by 13 users | Last reported on October 08, 2023This is a strictly average campground on Mount Desert Island. The best thing going for it is it's location very near the entrance to the island. That makes it easy for big rigs to get to.
We had reservations through Passport America (the rate reflects that). That means we were to have a "standard" site for our 40 foot rig. The site assigned to us would have just fit us in length, but we were too tall for it. I give the staff credit for recognizing that upfront and they gave us a bigger site that should have cost us more but didn't.
The campground looks a little run down. The sites are grassy and some trees. Roads are gravel. There are stumps and large rocks all over the place, so you have to be careful when pulling onto and out of your site.
There is a view of the water, but we were really too far away to enjoy it. There is a playground, but it's of the older style. There is also road noise from the highway.
WiFi is horrible. We were able to get on the first two days, but gave up after that. We got the MiFi out. Verizon is also bad. The only way to get a decent reliable signal was with my booster. Cable TV was excellent.
The campground is about 7 miles out of Bar Harbor, which is not a bad thing. It's also 7 miles or so from the entrance to Acadia.
All in all, we would probably not stay here again. There are better options

Stayed for four nights in early June at Mt Desert Narrows near Bar Harbor.
The campground is at the entrance to Mt Desert Island. It overlooks a pretty bay where you can watch clammers dig during low tides. It's not a swimming beach, as far as I could tell, but the sunsets over the water are spectacular.
I typically steer clear of Encore Resorts because they are overpriced and I think it's absurd they charge a resort fee for amenities that are standard at other campgrounds. But save for staying at one of the National Park campgrounds on the island, this park is the best deal if booked with Passport America. My price above reflects the Passport America price.
I have a small rig so they first squeezed me into tiny and unmaintained 98B. It was too muddy to level my van, had no picnic table, and the fire ring looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The next morning I went in to ask for a change and they put me in site 81, which is a perfect site. Excellent view, level grass pad, no rigs between you and the water. Little shade, though.
The campground itself is fine. I imagine it's packed during the summer (it was busy, though not packed, in mid-June before school got out). The whole park needs better maintenance and cleaning. But the showers are hot (really hot), the views are great, and you're a short drive to all the attractions of Bar Harbor and Acadia.

We stayed here because of the Passport America pricing for three of the days. The price shown is the full price we paid for the other two days. This gave us an electric and water only site that was very un-level. The FHU sites for $94/night all look like good size spaces but on grass and gravel most don't look any more level. Even with the nice view of the bay and proximity to the park, the price is ridiculous for this park.
There are three WiFi towers in the park and none of them worked at all. They were not full any of the nights we stayed, and the park is not that big that three decent towers shouldn't at least allow you to connect. Don't come if you depend on park WiFi for anything.
Fire rings and picnic tables at each site. Well maintained but having our neighbor's fire ring under our window was unpleasant. Maintenance throughout the park isn't bad and there were people working everyday. But at the prices charged you expect better than you get. Weeds around picnic tables and around seasonal sites, apples rotting on the ground, no landscaping.
Staff are friendly and helpful. The island shuttle has a stop at the front of the park which is very convenient - hourly in off-peak, half hourly in summer. The pool looks nice but small. Didn't use showers or laundry but both are available. The camp store is "lightly" stocked.
Very quiet at night and wonderfully dark to enjoy the starry skies.
We would stay again because of the PA rate, but for longer we would likely stay farther from the park and save our money.

First let me establish my main point - I have no legitimate complaints about this campground, but if it weren't for the fact that we had an oceanfront site directly on the very touristy mount desert island just 10 minutes away from Bar Harbor, this would definitely not have been worth the price. We only had water and electric, and the campsite was very "campsite ish" with RVs all parked beside one another.. This is not going to be a camping spot that will leave you breathless, it is rather a very typical RV park with not a whole lot of privacy. I was expecting to be a little bit more spacious at this price.... but again, this is a touristy area, this is not where you'll find the most breathtaking spots to park your RV... so that being considered, It did what we wanted.
We stayed here in August 2018 - peak season.. Price might have been lower at other times of the year
The ocean front sites are on the narrow behind the island, not directly ocean facing.. But still neat, as you can see the tide come in and out. During low tide you can walk the seabed (which is a bit muddy, if you have kids bring rubber boots). People from other sites walk up and down the shorline though so you do loose the privacy with an ocean site. If you need your personal space, it's not great.. if you love chatting and having fun with other RVers - perfect
I did get a chance to check out the bathrooms which were very clean and well maintained.
the people at the front desk were very nice, and extremely helpful to explain everything available locally
there's a small lobster shack walking distance from the campsite, can't miss it on the main road.. it was excellent, great price and great lobster!

This is not a favorable review.
When you arrive at a Thousand Trails (in this case an Encore) park you don't expect to be sectioned off into a part of the park without sewer, I actually felt penalized by being an Encore member. When I arrived and asked for a sewer site (there were plenty open) I was told I could pay over $850 for the pleasure! I opted to keep the site I was assigned without sewer. I was informed that I could pay $25 for honey wagon if I wanted it. I've stayed at other non-sewer TT parks and the honey wagon was free.
When I got into my site (warning most of their hookups are on the left side of the site) I wanted to move to an adjacent site, I was told I could not but got the Assistant Manger and she agreed to move me 1 site over.
The water in this park is so muddy it ruined both of my exterior water filters within days and my water slowed to a trickle within a week. There's a warning in the laundry that the water could stain your clothes and that you could go to the Narrows Too to do laundry. That's what I did.
Skip this one and go to the Narrows Too resort, it's much newer, the pool and grounds are well maintained that the people are terrific. Laundry won't stain your clothes either.

We camped at Narrows best II with a pop up. Lots of shade. Bathrooms are kept clean, not brand new, but what you would expect. Fellow campers are quiet and considerate. Everyone seems to head out to Acadia by 10a. The Sunset views from camp are amazing.

Campground has tons of mosquitoes. Apparently there is lots of standing water that the campground doesn’t care to mitigate. We were there for 9 days and were unable to sit outside the entire time for risk of being attacked. We were going to move campgrounds but would not receive a refund. Also, the water is literally brown. The explanation was they have high iron content. As a water Industry professional this would never be acceptable for any of our customers to serve brown water. The campground even has disclaimers in the laundry room about not taking responsibility for any damage to clothes because of the water. I would recommend other campgrounds nearby and ask about their groundwater conditions or if they are on city water. Stay at your own risk!

Staff were very friendly and the location is great but no money has been invested in this park in a long while. Site was not very level and needed new gravel and some trees trimmed. Right on the water so walking around was pretty.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating and the location was great to get to Bar Harbor. Unfortunately the sites are not level and the ground is soft. The place is a bit run down and could use a lot of updating.
