“Just outside Glacier National Park”
St. Mary Lodge, Cabins, and Motel is an upscale full-service lodge situated just outside Glacier National Park’s east entrance in St. Mary, Montana. With 115 guest rooms spread among six facilities, the property features accommodations ranging from luxury lodge rooms and suites to rustic and relaxing cottages and motel rooms. On June 30, 2011, we added St. Mary Lodge, Cabins, and Motel into our lodging family. The addition of St. Mary Lodge, Cabins, and Motel extends GPI’s current operations in and around Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks. We are very excited about this addition to our company as it gives us the opportunity to offer our guests a wider range of accommodation options on the Park’s east side and extends our position as a hospitality employer of choice in Glacier County and in the state of Montana. St. Mary Lodge, Cabins, and Motel is a wonderful facility with a remarkable history in St. Mary, and we look forward to enhancing guest and employee experiences in this stunning national park gateway.
Request a room that's not a "basement room". Those are the cheapest, but it's worth paying a little more for a nicer room, with a view. There have been some plumbing complaints, regarding shower pressure and water temp. It's a great base camp for exploring Glacier National Park. The wifi is spotty, but works pretty well in the lobby. There's also an onsite lounge that serves food and cocktails. It's also just a few minutes walk to a pizza place.
We booked a single night pre paid stay at this facility. While the website gave a brief description of the value room it does not contain pictures nor detailed information regarding the location and quality of the basement rooms. Upon arriving at the facility and checking into our room, we where horrified at the level of quality and condition that this value room represented. I can only describe our room as as the saddest hotel room I have ever seen. Concrete floors, cold, hollow core entry doors, worn out furniture, old bedding, pathetic artwork, windows you cannot see of, exposed plumbing pipes in the ceiling and a general lack luster approach to any design or quality of materials. While the room appeared to be generally clean except for the overused, threadbare stained chair cushions and bedspread we did not stay long enough to further investigate. The front door was hollow core and the knob was loose in its housing hardly providing a feeling of safety.
We asked the front desk if another room was available and expressed our displeasure. Sadly no other rooms even at a higher price where available. We decided we could not stay in here as it did not feel safe, welcoming nor clean. After locating another facility to stay at, at a higher cost which I was happy to pay for piece of mind, we returned and checked out approximately 4 hours after checking in and never stayed in the room.
We requested a refund partial or full and received a form reply and no refund or consideration.
With this now under the ownership of GPI you should see big improvements here. The former owners were not up to bringing the operation up to today’s standards. The location and it’s history combined with a well respected hotelier (and some new mattresses) is going to get me on board for a visit this next summer. I spent three weeks there many years ago and it had not changed since the 1950’s. This could make St Mary’s Lodge a must stop instead of a must avoid.
