New Jersey's tallest lighthouse awaits you at Pacific and Rhode Island Avenues in Atlantic City (walking distance from Showboat Casino). Take an amazing journey into time and above it all as you ascend the 228 steps of the Absecon Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country. You'll see breathtaking views of the Atlantic City skyline and up top you'll come face-to-face with the original first-order Fresnel Lens, first lit in 1857. The lighthouse's recent multi-million dollar restoration also includes a stunning replica of the Lightkeeper's dwelling, an educational museum, charming gift shop, Fresnel Lens exhibit in the original Oil House and expansive grounds. Ghosts have been seen here since 1905, when the Jersey Devil was seen from top of the tower. Others since then have seen ghosts and noticed smells of pipe and cigar smoke, and spooky laughter, footsteps in the tower and the tower door opening and closing. People have also found dimes in odd places for some weird reason

Visiting the lighthouse is free, but you must buy a 7 dollar ticket to climb the staircase.

Absecon Lighthouse is open year-round for tours, walks to the top, and they even offer an overnight tour called Keeper Sleeper Overnights. During the overnight tour, you’ll learn about the history of lighthouses, the history of the Absecon Lighthouse, enjoy a nighttime climb to the top for a dazzling view of the Atlantic City skyline, hear ghost stories (optional), and enjoy breakfast, as well as a snack.
We think a visit here is one of the best things to do in Atlantic City.
