From Austin to Albany, this was our first nature walking after leaving Texas and it did not disappoint. Even with 80% humidity and dew point, in 90 degree heat the weather couldn’t spoil the beauty this trail offers. Shaded, lush and soaring trees mixed with vines of all kinds and mushrooms in just about every shape and color lines the paved (but not commercialized) path. But with wonderfully thoughtful land management, the thickness is cleared alway with sunlight casting down through the tree tops. Beautiful song birds of plenty. The trail ends at a small walking loop with multiple lookout points of the river. Some leading back off into the woods others to arranged painted benches (quite attractive). The stone pavilion offers an oversized fireplace with rocking Adirondack chairs. We only noticed trash at the trash can and saw none on the trail. The bluff was beautiful but the bountiful path there and back offered up the most magic.
Other things to note:
No rest rooms
Single entry/exit parking lot so RVs you’ll need to find parking with the couple businesses within walking distance.
The trail is flat and very very easy.
And short but not disappointingly so.
There are three trash receptacles
No fee
There’s a larger gate that is closed to the paved portion but it’s accessible on the side so don’t be deterred.
Enjoy!
