“Built by German prisoners of war”
Half life-size scene with 60 figures was built by Camp Algona German prisoners of war; held here during World War II. Figures are constructed of plastered concrete over wooden and wire frames. Exhibit fully restored over the past two years.
SO WORTH THE STOP! We loved seeing this and learning about the POW camp. The nativity is beautiful, much bigger than anticipated, and provides a really peaceful atmosphere. It's amazing how they made it--wood frames, plaster, and cement. We went in June and had to call to set up an appointment to see it. But it's open regularly in December for the Christmas season.
