“Imposing structure on the river’s edge”
In Season: 315-482-9724 Off Season: 315-482-2501 Call for Prices Millionaire hotel magnate George C. Boldt as a tribute to his beloved wife Louise. Boldt Castle was designed as their summer dream home on the St. Lawrence River, in the heart of the 1000 Islands. However it was not to be, Mrs. Boldt passed away suddenly just months before the completion of the castle. Mr. Boldt was inconsolable and immediately stopped all construction on Heart Island, leaving the property vacant for over seventy years. It's open seasonally between mid-May to mid-October.
Really Terri Horton, how many bricks will you remove on your next visit to Boldt Castle? If all of the tourists stole bricks from the castle how long do you think it would be left standing? I totally agree with m.robermat; take pictures and don't remove stuff!
LOVED IT - MUST SEE!!! Nice boat ride over and awesome grounds - really neat to see how it was made and being kept - The grounds will take as long to see as the castle - expect to spend 4 hours. When in the area there is also a nice boat ride to Singer castle that will take about 4 hours round trip. Nice to see the clear water and all the islands.
The castle sits on one of the 1000 islands and is quite an epic site to come up on as you traverse the islands. There is a fee to do the tour, and I was surprised by the number of visitors while I was there - but it was well worth the visit. Walking the grounds and secret gardens with their views across the island is great.
I was there in July 1978. My Mom, Dad, Husband and our 3 1/2 year old daughter, Heather, all visited. My daughter called it the "Kings Castle". My Dad, being a great Grandfather picked up two pieces of brick and put them in his pocket. He gaven them to Heather when we returned home (Utica at the time). Heather is now 38 and still has those two pieces of the "Kings Castle" on her dresser. We plan on visiting next summer with her 13 year old daughter and 2 1/2 year old son. It is a trip I am really looking forward to shareing with Heather!
Seeing the castle in person was amazing! I went with my two daughters. It was an amazing story . So glad we planned this trip! It will not leave you disappointed .
The closest thing you can actually get to staying in a real castle!
The Boldt Castle is just amazing! The whole experience of being there was fantastic and it made us relax and travel back through time.
Lovely park around, great castle, kept in very good condition and sitting/picnic areas are available at the waterfront.
I would suggest you should not miss visiting out if you are at the area.
My parents took me there as a child and I took my children a couple of years ago... so beautiful!
Yes it's worth the trip, especially if you like old grand buildings.
Great stop!! Our entire family enjoyed this one!
