The Dyea Campground is located 9 miles from Skagway. Nestled in the trees along the banks of the Taiya River with limited amenities, the Dyea Campground is a restful place from busy town. The campground is within a short drive or bike ride of the historic townsite of Dyea and a half mile from the Chilkoot Trailhead. The campground is monitored by National Park Service rangers and is open when free of snow.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on June 08, 2022I'll be honest, Skagway is an incredibly touristy town with lots of cruise boats stopping there every day. However, none of them go to the Dyea Flats and this is where the Gold Rush really happened. You can see the old Gold Rush Cemetery, go walk on the flats and enjoy the Alaska Coast. It is 9 miles from Skagway and .5 miles from the the Chilkoot trailhead. Pit toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and garbage receptacles are provided. There are 22 sites.

15-20 drive on a gravel road to Skagway. No problem with our 32’ fifth wheel. Dry camping, only 22 sites but most are good size. Only a few we would not fit in. Clean & quiet with free firewood. The flats across the river are nice also but bridge height is 11’6” so not an option for us.

We stayed here for two days while exploring Skagway and the old ghost town of Dyea. There is no drinking water at the campground, so be sure to bring some. Plenty of firewood is provided.
