James Buchanan House

Wheatland, or the James Buchanan House, is a brick, Federal style house outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in Lancaster Township, Lancaster County. It was formerly owned by the 15th President of the United States, James Buchanan. The house was constructed in 1828 by William Jenkins, a local lawyer. It was sold to William M. Meredith in 1841. Wheatland changed hands again in 1848, when it was purchased by Buchanan. Buchanan occupied the house for the next two decades, except for several years during his ambassadorship in Great Britain and during his presidency. After his death in 1868, Wheatland was inherited by Buchanan's niece, Harriet Lane, who sold it in 1881 to George Willson. It was inherited by a relative of Willson's in 1929. Wheatland was put up for sale again after the relative died in 1934 and was acquired by a group of people who set up a foundation for the purpose of preserving the house. Wheatland was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. It was designated a contributing property to the Northeast Lancaster Township Historic District in 1980. The foundation and the adjacent historical society merged in 2009.

Chellas Arepa Kitchen

3

Combining our love for cooking with our Latin heritage, we set out to bring something new to Lancaster. The result was fresh Peruvian cuisine and Venezuelan inspired arepas. Those who've taken their taste buds on a trip to the southern hemisphere are blown away by the unique tastes and sensations. We put pride into every meal prepared in our kitchen and use only quality ingredients - something that makes a big difference when it comes to taste. We want every Pennsylvanian to be able to gather and enjoy our food: That's why all of our meals are completely gluten free, and we offer options for vegans and vegetarians. So come on by our little island and try something new - you'll be glad you did.

Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum

4

Landis Valley Museum, a living history village and farm, collects, preserves and interprets the history and material culture of the Pennsylvania German rural community from 1740 to 1940 and enhances understanding of their successful practices, interactions with others, and the impact on the state and nation for citizens of and visitors to the Commonwealth. Landis Valley Museum's richly layered story is the history of an early Pennsylvania German settlement, an unusual farm family, and the ongoing creation and exploration of a wonderfully diverse collection of artifacts. When brothers Henry Kinzer Landis (1865-1955) and George Diller Landis (1867 - 1954) opened the museum in 1925 at their Landis Valley residence, the area had been a small Pennsylvania German settlement since the mid 1800s. Expanded to its current size, we now invite visitors to experience 18th and 19th century village and farm life in Lancaster County, Pa, all in one visit. With over 100 acres and many historic buildings to explore throughout the four seasons, there's always something to see at Landis Valley Museum.

First National Bank Museum

5

Established in 1852.

Come visit one of the most fascinating and "undiscovered" historical treasures in Lancaster County, PA,... the First National Bank Museum, in the heart of downtown Columbia. Enjoy a private guided tour of an original bank from the 1850's and learn about this bank's role in the extensive development of the industries and transportation systems throughout this area along the lower shores of the mighty Susquehanna River. The First National Bank of Columbia was created in the front two corner rooms of a stately Federal-style townhouse, built in 1814 for James Wright, Jr. It survives in tact today because of the extraordinary guts and vision of the late Lloyd and Jean Motter. Their legacy continues through the ongoing restoration, maintenance, and loving care provided by their daughter, Nora Motter Stark, and her husband, Michael.

National Watch & Clock Museum

The National Watch and Clock Museum was officially opened to the public in 1977 with fewer than 1,000 items. Since that time, the collection has increased to over 12,000 items and the museum has undergone several expansion projects. The latest expansion opened in October 1999 and featured an entirely new and redesigned exhibit space, as well as a new two-story addition. Today, the museum is recognized as the largest and most comprehensive horological collection in North America.
