In 2018, I did a huge trip out West to Yosemite and other national parks. This time, I look Eastward to the seat of our nation. This is only the beginning of my American history tour as well as making stops at the national parks along the way.

The first day of many a Texas road trip is escaping the gravitational pull of Texas and avoiding getting caught in metropolitan traffic. Our route bypasses most of the I-35 corridor because it's usually a mess of traffic and construction.
We will merely be sampling the wonders of Great Smoky. Like many national parks, you can spend a lifetime exploring just one park. The opportunity to at least see the Blue Ridge mountaintops is too great to pass up. I missed seeing Yosemite as a teen and I won't miss another park like that again.
