Good news, fans of "The Hunger Games!” You don't have to go into the future to explore the dystopian, post-apocalyptic setting for the famous movies. Most of the filming was actually done in Georgia. President Snow's mansion, the Tribute Quarters, and a few other gems from the series were filmed around the Atlanta area. These are the coolest Hunger Games filming locations in Georgia!
The Swan House, built in 1928, appears in both “Catching Fire” and "Mockingjay Part 1" as President Snow’s mansion. Both interior and exterior shots were filmed here at the mansion-turned-cafe. Stop by for a refined, boozy luncheon and soak up the regal, Capitol vibes!
The massive lobby of the JW Mariott Atlanta in Buckhead has the perfect, futuristic vibe to be featured as part of the quarters for the tributes in "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay Part 1." The atrium was the largest in the world when it was finished in 1985, and even to this day, it remains an impressive feature in the gorgeous hotel.
The Pullman Rail Yard isn't open to the public often, but if you get a chance to visit, you'll probably recognize it as the Hunger Games’ hob (the hospital/hangar). It's been abandoned for years and is owned by the State of Georgia. The historic buildings and rail yard structures are pretty cool looking... but if you're really wanting to explore, definitely wait until an event is taking place there, since trespassing is off-limits.
The last thing you'd expect to find in the middle of one of Atlanta's most rapidly growing neighborhoods is a working organic farm and a cluster of 19th-century era warehouses, but that's exactly what the Goat Farm Arts Center is. When it's not being used as an event space for musical and artistic performances, non-profit events, a communal coffee shop, or a chicken habitat, it looks pretty much abandoned, making it the perfect spot to film shots that take place in District 12, where Katniss, the hero of the series, is from.
The Olympic Games are kind of like a less high-stakes version of the Hunger Games, so it makes sense that this former Olympic beach volleyball venue served as the arena for the Quarter Quell in the series. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, it operates as a super-fun water park complete with slides, kiddie pools, water trampolines, indoor play equipment, and tons more.
The massive Atlanta Motor Speedway was the perfect filming location for the Chariot Parade scene in "Catching Fire.” When it isn't being used for NASCAR races, it stars in all kinds of movies, from "Necessary Roughness" to "Anchorman 2.”
