Get out the rolling paper and crank up the Foghat- here’s a tour of the definitive filming locations celebrating the 20th anniversary of the coming-of-age classic, Dazed and Confused. You don’t have to go on this road trip, but you’d be a whooole lot cooler if you did.
The filming location for Robert E. Lee Highschool, the place where all of the students hung out even though none of them ever seemed to go to class, is Austin's Bedicheck Middle School. Although their conversations about Neo-McCarthyism or Gilligan’s Island subverted the traditional curriculum, they still managed to get an education from the place. The real location still operates as a middle school.
One of Wooderson’s favorite spots for meeting the high school ladies (“I sure do love them redheads…”) is a can’t-miss location. In the film, it’s a drive-in burger joint and meeting spot, and in real life it also operates as a local eatery as the Top Notch Hamburgers in Austin. Sadly, the pool hall, the Emporium Club, aka the real-life Poodle Dog Lounge, is closed.

Next up is the site of the middle school where Mitch and his friends get hazed by the high school seniors with paddles. You won’t have to worry about getting whipped by any upper classmen though- the actual school, Williams Elementary, shut down a number of years ago, although the building still stands.
The events of the film lead up to an impromptu beer bash at a secluded park. While you can still go hang around West Enfield Park until the early hours of the morning, be aware that the dare-inspiring Moonlight Tower has since been removed. It’s still a great spot to stage your "Dazed and Confused"-themed party.
After the huge party, Wooderson, Pink, and Don all decide to burn one out on the fifty yard line of the high school football stadium while watching the sun come up. This stadium still stands and is part of the Toney Burger Activity Center.
