Our first big outing in the new motor coach. Our trip was to take us to Pensacola Beach and back during the Christmas break.
Mount Zion, IL US
I had intended to be on the road by 8, but an issue with the braking system for the F150 not wanting to activate properly delayed our start. We finally got going about a hour late and left town around 8:50.
We encountered rain and fog through Illinois before things finally cleared up near Paducah. We stopped for a quick lunch at the weigh station on I-24 near Kuttawa and then fuel at the Flying J #662 in Oak Grove, KY. Traffic began to increase near Clarksville, but wasn't too bad. Coach handled great and we eventually arrived at the campground just before 5. Owners were friendly and helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to stop there again.

We didn't get going quite as early as I had hoped, but I was able to get the braking system to work. We stopped for a quick breakfast at the I-65 Alabama Welcome Center and headed south. Construction and rough roads around Birmingham but the coach handled nicely. Montgomery was the next big city but nothing really out of the ordinary. A crash on I-65 caused a back up of several miles, but traffic never really came to stop and the scene was cleared before we got there. A stop for fuel and some lunch at the Flying J #604 in Hope Hull would be our last fuel stop on the way south. We exited I-65 onto AL 17 heading south toward US29 and were in Florida before we knew it. Roads were four lane and well maintained. We arrived at Fort Pickens around 5 (30 minutes after the ranger station closed) but found our camp site and, with some help from a neighbor, got backed in and set up with almost no issues. The campground is old and the spaces a little tight, but I would definitely return if given the opportunity.
