The ruins of Spiš Castle in eastern Slovakia form one of the largest castle sites in Central Europe. Spiš Castle was built in the 12th century on the site of an earlier castle. In 2006, the castle attracted about 170,000 visitors. The castle is also frequently used as a location for films, including Dragonheart, Phoenix, Kull the Conqueror, The Lion in Winter, and The Last Legion.
