“An abandoned Art Nouveau triumph”
***This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner.*** This grand casino was commissioned in 1900 by King Carol I and officially opened to the public in 1910. Once the symbol of the city of Constanta, the Casino facing the Black Sea has fallen into disrepair over the course of the 20th century. On its path to closure in 1990, the Casino was repurposed briefly to a military hospital in WWII, then to a restaurant during the communist regime. Periodically, attempts at restoration are made, but this shell still sits empty, looming over the harbor. It is owned by the municipality and technically closed to the public. The Casino Constanta is the site of the final confrontation in the film The Brothers Bloom.
