Springfield is a city located in the center of the state of Illinois, USA. It is the capital of Illinois, not Chicago (as to avoid the Windy City from having too much clout in the state) as well as the county seat of Sangamon County. Springfield is best known for its most famous resident, Abraham Lincoln, and the several historic sites related to him.
