Overview
Pensacola is a historic beach city in northwest Florida, in the United States of America. It is in Escambia County, Florida's westernmost county, at the tip of the "panhandle". The city is home to the Pensacola Naval Air Station, the National Museum of Naval Aviation and many historic districts that skirt the downtown area. Surrounded on three sides by water, the Pensacola area is full of history, shipwrecks, beaches and spectacular vistas.

- The first Catholic Mass in the United States was held on Pensacola Beach shortly after the Spanish arrived in the Summer of 1559.
- American Pioneer Daniel Boone came through Pensacola during the British period in 1763, and wanted to live in Pensacola but his wife refused to leave North Carolina.
- Having been ruled by Spain, France, Britain, the Confederacy and the United States, Pensacola earned the nickname “City of Five Flags”.
- Pensacola was the original capital of Florida.
- Naval Air Station Pensacola (NASP) was the first Naval Air Station commissioned by the U.S. Navy in 1914, which is why Pensacola is referred to as "The Cradle of Naval Aviation".
