- In 2012, Nik Wallenda became the first person to cross the Niagara Falls by tightrope in 116 years, and was able to do so after receiving permission from both the Canadian and United States governments.
- The word Niagara comes from the word "onguiaahra" which means "a thundering noise".
- Originally called Elgin, the community merged with Clifton in 1856 and was known by that name until 1881, when its name was changed to Niagara Falls.
- The Niagara Falls are made up of 3 waterfalls, the American Falls, the Bridal Veil Falls and the Horseshoe Falls.
