Overview
Nevada's capital, Carson City is located along the eastern front of the Sierra Nevada, in the Eagle Valley, just east of Lake Tahoe, south of Reno, and north of Douglas County and the Carson Valley communities of Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa. The Carson River flows through the southeast corner of the city. With a population approaching 65,000, Carson City is a picturesque, evolving destination with central access to the outdoors as well as larger and smaller communities nearby.

- Carson City is one of the smallest capitals in the country.
- The longest morse code telegram ever sent was the Nevada state constitution. Sent from Carson City to Washington D.C. in 1864. The transmission must have taken several hours.
- Carson City started its history as a waystation for white settlers seeking to make it rich at the Gold Rush. However, in 1859, gold prospectors hit silver in the hills east of the city. The Comstock Lode, as it was called, was the largest silver find in world history
- Carson City was named after mountain man Kit Carson.
- The Shootist, John Wayne’s last film that was shot on location at the Krebbs-Peterson House in Carson City.
