Aspen is a ski resort in the state of Colorado in the Rocky Mountains region of the United States of America. Its little sister is Snowmass Village, which is about 10 miles from downtown Aspen.

  1. Singer John Denver made Aspen his home and was inspired by the town’s beauty when he wrote his 1972 world-recognized hit, “Rocky Mountain High.”
  2. Throughout Aspen Mountain’s trees, you can find four hidden “shrines” made by locals in homage to John Denver, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and The Greatful Dead’s, Jerry Garcia.
  3. In the 1890s, Durant Avenue was known as the Red-Light District of Aspen.
  4. The Smuggler II Mine near Aspen produced the largest silver nugget in the world in 1894. It weighed more than a ton.
  5. In 1977, notorious serial killer Ted Bundy, while in the Pitkin County Courthouse in Aspen for a pre-trial hearing, jumped from a second-story window and escaped. He remained free for six days, hiding out on Aspen Mountain, before he was arrested while attempting to drive a stolen car out of the city.
