“promoting wildlife understanding”
The mission of Bramble Park Zoo is to promote wildlife understanding and conservation through public education, maintenance of superior exhibits and high quality care for the animal collection. We also strive to provide our patrons with an enjoyable recreational experience. Bramble Park Zoo (BPZ) in Watertown, SD was founded in 1912 when the City Council accepted and placed on display a collection of pheasants and waterfowl donated by Mr. Frank Bramble. In 1940, the collection was moved from a park near downtown Watertown to its present location, where WPA constructed new exhibits forming the nucleus of the zoo. In the ensuing years, the zoo continued to add native species as well as some exotic species such as primates, big cats, hoofstock and more. Bramble Park Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
