First I want to acknowledge Gary and Don, the two people we interacted with during our stay. They are pleasant, helpful, friendly and well informed. We stayed at a site with no sun unfortunately but thats because we waited well into the season before we booked. We were near a rest room, which was convenient. The lake and the surrounding areas are absolutely gorgeous. I took a kayak out ( 20 bucks for 24 hours, pretty damn good) and the scenery was breathtaking. Its hard to know what site to book when you are only looking at a map of sites, but there are MANY on the water and while there this time we scouted the water sites to pick ours for next year. One disclaimer that you should know before going is there is ZERO signal or s=cell service at the site and to obtain a signal you have to drive quite a ways to either Speculator or Indian Lake, maybe a 20- 30 minute drive. This was at first a surprise, but Kind of liked not having to bring my phone anywhere ( except for photos) and the compulsion to constantly check the phone was quickly eliminated , I would definitely rate this site 4 stars and I will be back next year. We had noisy camp neighbors but you cant prepare for EVERYTHING. Or maybe bring ear plugs. :)

I made my reservation through Reserve America. Finding the campground is easy....but there are several signs pointing to each side of the highway when approaching from Indian Lake side indicating the entrance to Lewey Lake....so go slow to make sure you pull into the one that actually has the Ranger booth. Sign in was easy and as with many Adirondack campgrounds, a bear warning is always issued. I found my site and was able to back in fairly easy, I had to jack knife to make the turn. The site was large enough and it took minimal effort to get my rig level. There is a fire ring with a picnic table...no other hook ups. There are water spigots located around the park to fill your rig or jugs. The interior roads are broken pavement and crushed stone. The roads are narrow in areas so two rigs cannot pass each other. The bathroom in my loop was updated, kept clean with decent hot water. The campground offers kayak rentals, firewood for sale, beach area, fishing and the staff was good at keeping the campground clean.
Lewey Lake is located 12 miles south of Indian Lake and 12 miles north of Speculator on Route 30. That's how far you would need to go to get gas, groceries or other necessities as there is none near the campground. There is also no cell service in the area....closest signal is 4 miles south near Mason Lake. There is plenty of paddling, hiking, exploring and don't be surprised if you see some skinny dipping in the more secluded areas which there is several. As mentioned in other reviews, Route 30 splits the campground with a curve and the traffic does zip on by at 60-65mph. So if you have kids on bikes, might want to keep them off the road. I would stay here again, most sites have tree cover so if you have solar...it will struggle. Generators are allowed during certain hours....and I never did see a bear or heard anyone say they did.

There are three good things about this campground and a handful of not so good things. One being the free, very clean, and hot showers. Two being the beautiful view from the sandy lake “beach”. Also, the camp employees were friendly and helpful.
With that being said, we probably wouldn’t stay here again. The trucks and cars fly past this campground at incredibly dangerous speeds. We came inches away from getting slammed into while looking for our site. There should be a 35 mph speed sign in this area, but there is not. You can hear all of these high speed racers throughout the night from your campsite.
The campsite and fire pit had garbage and there were mentions from other campers about mice getting into their dwellings. Also, be equipped with clear trash bags. You can only put garbage in the waste bin if it is in a clear(not traditional white) garbage bag.
There is absolutely no service whatsoever. However you can travel 15 minutes up the road each way for full bars.
