Terrific facilities at our campsite, thus far the neatest & cleanest campsite with a terrific bath house.
Gorgeous park with relatively secluded and well maintained tent camping sites. The bathrooms were really nice and centrally located. There is a nice short hike you can take near Loop C that leads to a beautiful overlook for the sunset. Technically it's not part of the trail but it's easy enough to find. Only stayed one night but the park seemed to have many activities including a beach.
We stayed here for one night. The water was not available due to the cold temps but we had electric and the dump station could be used. This is a nice park especially in the fall. There were only two other people in the park. There are a bunch of great hiking trails that go through well cared for forest. Deer and wildlife all over the place. I wish we had more time to explore. If we come back this way we will definitely stay here again. Some reviews have said they had good Verizon coverage, we had none.

We camped here late in the season and had the park to ourselves! We had a great time here (even though it snowed!!), but I can only imagine how nice this park is in the summer. There are trails throughout the park and the lake is really pretty. Again, it was cold when we were there so we didn’t check out the lake that much, but we still had a great time. The bathrooms were nice and the camp host was helpful too. I definitely recommend this park if you are in the area.

We've stayed here 33 years in a row. The fee jumped about $10 since last year. Nice clean campground wit lots of trails and the lake is beautiful. Unfortunately we won't be back.

We stayed 1 night while passing through the area. Our site was in loop D which is the area with electric and water at the sites. The sites in this loop are small and right on top of each other with no privacy. My son commented that it was like a KOA look and feel. (Not our favorite type of site.) We walked through the other loops which were shaded, more spacious, many were more private, but did not have electric or water at their sites.
We hiked while at the campground but did not do anything on the lake which is really the big attraction here at this park. We also hiked at New River State park which is nearby and is mostly just a hiking/biking/horseback trail (some of the photos someone submitted for this state park are actually from New River State park.)
We would stay here again if in the area.
We have x-finity cell phones which claim to use Verizon towers. I had 2 bars of service which worked well.

The sites in the campground does not offer privacy, but could be overlooked. It's level and gravel packed. The beach is about a 10 minute walk on the hiking paths (some official, some random)
The beach was crowded in Covid time. But the water is refreshing and the beach has a nice view of the lake houses across.

Stayed here one night while traveling. Staff at gate house were amazing and helpful. It was a Monday and they let me choose my site.
Having a little teardrop and it being hot I drove through Campground D which had the electric and water sites. I figured I’d get electric for my a/c. Little shade, no privacy and all on top of each other. The sites are all gravel and level. The color signage on the sites confused me as well. Regardless, I was not into the RV park scene. I drove over to campground A, primitive sites and it was perfect. All shaded, spread apart, some areas terraced. No hookups but I would rather utilize my battery for the forested setting. The road in this area was NARROW. There were larger rv’s back there but the road requires your attention! Again, all sites are huge with gravel and all level. I did not use the park bathrooms due to COVID but saw employees cleaning. The host(s) were all welcoming and helpful.
The park has a variety of trails and I chose to hike my dog on the Claytor Lake Trail. We hiked to the overlook and then down along the road closer to the water. The trails are maintained and peaceful. My dog swam in one of the inlets as they are not allowed on the beach. From my site it was a 3.1 mile loop. Just what I needed after a day in the car.
I would imagine a summer weekend this place is very busy. For my one night it was half empty and very quiet. I would definitely stay here again. If you are into watersports I would imagine you would love it. Just know the campground and the water are not near each other. Walkable yes but not super convenient. It looked like most people would drive (because its all uphill going back to the campground).

We came in late and checked out early, as this was just used as a 1st stop on our trip west. Our pull through site was very level and easy to negotiate. Would have liked to stay here longer to enjoy the lake.
