Cedar Pass campgound is awesome! 18.99 per night, and the only camping facility actually in Badlands. It's nothing special, I mean this is camping! They have showers, toilets and water and gorgeous views of the park! Which is all you need!
5 Stars for location location location. This is the only campground in the actual Badlands National Park. When we arrived we were told someone took our reserved spot, we wouldn’t fit there anyway, and wouldn’t have wanted it since it was next to the dumpster. We were kindly directed to a side road location away from the crowded main campground - it was a beautiful spot with a small tree, a view, grass, and covered picnic tables. No electricity or water but there was a station for water and dumping. We didn’t use the public facilities so I can’t speak to those. The astronomy presentation was great and they gave out patches to the kids. Amazing experience.
“Shaded spots and full hookups” a bit misleading... when you see shade you think trees, well, no trees, picnic tables are shaded. Also when I see FULL hookups, I think water and electric and usually sewage, I must have missed something because we had 50 amp electric but no water. Not only no water but the bath house had pay showers, never seen that before. But hey we had GREAT views!
I gave it 5 stars because I think it's the most convenient National Park campground I've come across. Lacks for privacy though but it's still better than staying outside the park. The nighttime view is nearly impossible to beat.
Basic campground. Main Bathroom in middle of campground has clean showers and updated flush toilets. Plenty of trash bins and a campground host. Very windy but beautiful star gazing opportunities. We stayed one night.
Respectable camping establishment with a great view.
Pros:
- The View
- Clean functional bathrooms and showers
- Reasonably priced (Approx. $20 CAN)
- Right next to a beautiful trail network
Cons:
- Minimal privacy at the sites (open field)
Cedar Pass Campground is located just at the Eastern edge of the Badlands National Park. There are only a few electric sites, and the campground fills up quickly during the busy season. There were only 4 sites in the campground that could accommodate our Airstream and tow vehicle, and the site we were given was right at the start of the loop. This campground was originally a picnic area before being converted into a campground. Sites are technically car parking pull-offs for tenters. It really is an ideal campground for tenting if you don't mind being 7 feet from your neighbor. The site we attempted to stay in had our door opening into the road, and posed a risk every time we wanted to step out.
Verizon was 2Mbs down, 4Mbs up with a booster.

During our Badlands visit in early September the temperatures were soaring and hitting 100 degrees. Thus, we needed a site with electric and dropped in without a reservation. The location is great with fabulous views in all directions. The layout leaves a bit to be desired. This is a former day picnic use area turned into campground. The radius of the campsites can be challenging to park in and some sites can be almost impossible for longer rigs. We lucked out scoring site 83. Although severely sloped, it was long and easy to park in. Most campers pull-in for one night and leave early the next morning. So to have a bigger selection of sites to choose from arrive before 11:00. The fee for an electric site is $35 plus tax. With hubby's Senior National Park Pass we received a discount and paid $26.38 which includes the tax. The campground is within walking distance to the Visitor Center. The bathroom offers flush toilets. There's a separate shower house which is coin operated and merely ok. As funky as the layout is, we enjoyed our stay and ended up booking another night.

Pretty basic campground inside the national park. Some of the sites offer electricity.
There are two main loops. The upper and the lower. Believe the host is in site 11 in the upper loop (never saw them).
Check-in procedure is handled by a third party. I'd recommend driving through the campground and make note of several adequate sites. Then drive back to the "lodge" right up the street. Go to the cabin check-in counter and inquire about the sites. There is NO self check-in. Check-in process is not what I would say welcoming.
We scored site 11 without electricity but plenty of sun for the solar panels. Evening views were amazing.
There is an on-site RV dump and water for $1. Yep, one dollar.
