“Superior water. Superior beer.”
Fitger’s Brewhouse opened in 1995, after its founders took a western-states ski trip and came back inspired by that region’s brewing scene. Combining the relaxed ambience of a high mountain brewery with uncompromising dedication to quality, Fitger’s Brewhouse established a tradition of handcrafted beer, fantastic food and excellent entertainment on Lake Superior’s north shore. This year the Brewhouse Brewery will produce more than 100 styles–and 2,500 barrels–of handcrafted beer. The Brewhouse Grille, Red Star Lounge and Burrito Union carry a rotating combination of 20 unique brews, including cask-conditioned ale, the medal-winning Witch Tree E.S.B. and Big Boat Oatmeal Stout. Our stage hosts eclectic local and touring entertainers 5+ nights a week. When Sidney Luce started the first brewery in Duluth in 1857, he probably wasn’t think about making candy bars. His mind was on beer. But the course of history would take his business into candy bars, boxing, pop and champagne, as well as “The Call of the North,” Fitger’s Beer. Luce built his brewery a block and a half from the present Fitger’s site and utilized a small clear brook which eventually became know as Brewery Creek. By 1870, he had sold the operation to Nicholas Decker, who built the business with advertising that capitalized on the area’s natural resources.
