“Do the truffle shuffle!”
The Goonies House, better known as Mikey's house, is one of the most popular attractions in Astoria. The formerly-private residence was recently purchased by a Goonies super fan who hopes to preserve the film's legacy by repainting the exterior to match the movie, installing a zipline, and creating a gathering place for fans of the film.
Reviews
The house must have changed hands within the last few months based on our visit today.
1. The signs at the bottom of the driveway near the mailboxes about trespassing and calling the police are gone. The only sign next to the mailboxes says "YES."
2. We exchanged pleasantries with both the owner (or whoever was in the house at the time) and a neighbor to the right (if you're looking at the house). Both women gave big smiles and said hi.
3. The house was in great shape. I assume the tarps mentioned by other visitors were for renovations by the new owner.
We left $20 in the donation box and parked in the boat launch lot next to the Comfort Suites. Don't park or pull over in the neighborhood nearby the house. Parking at the boat launch is $10 for the day and we left our parking ticket in the machine for the next person. Good spot to access the Riverwalk too. You can park for free at Safeway, which is a little further from the house.
Being respectful of the neighbors and neighborhood will ensure future visitors are able to enjoy access too.
I am going to buy this house one day. Even if I have to forcibly evict the family that currently lives there. Muhahaha!
HEY YOU GUYS! I live down the street from the house. The new owners are great. However, please remember, do not park up Duane between 37th and 38th. Turn to right on Duane. Park there and walk up. The street by house is very very VERY NARROW! If you park up there you are not only taking neighborhood parking but causing congestion. Even for a minute. And NEVER DRIVE UP DRIVEWAY! The residents are responsible for up keep and it’s getting chewed up! We can all work together but need your cooperation in this please!
You are not allowed anywhere close to this house. The steep driveway makes it hard to see from the street at all. Nowhere to park to even try for a picture. So disappointed when people buy movie houses and are like that.
Can't see it. Don't bother. People shouldn't buy famous houses if they are going to be mad that people want to take photos...I mean, it's the GOONIES!!! Such a disappointment.
If you're a geocacher be sure to pull out your app, there's one near the house! Also a fun bonus - the elementary school that's nearby was used in Kindergarten Cop! Tons of cool film locations around Astoria.
We went up to the house with the owner filming us angrily, as if she we going to call the police!! Definitely don’t purchase a famous house with that kind of bad attitude, shame on her!!!
The man who lives there now is very hostile to anyone walking anywhere near the house. The small donation box that used to be there and the sign that said foot traffic was accepted are long gone. We saw that one of the houses was for sale (partially visible in the movie for a brief moment), so we went up anyway. When we got halfway up the drive leading to all the houses on the hill (a public road until the telephone pole we learned from the very friendly neighbor), he came out on his porch to shout at us. We explained that we were there to see the house for sale, and he told us to go straight to the house, i.e. don't stop and take pictures.
Hey! Cool scene, I only give it 5 stars so you see that I'm here to tell you that it is currently closed for renovation, possibly indefinitely. It's largely covered in blue tarps as well.
Every year there's a Goonies festival in Astoria and this house is a major attraction for fans. Definitely take a video of yourself doing the truffle shuffle!
