“ever changing landscape”
Visitors to Dead Horse Point State Park are in for a treat. Driving to each of the park’s many overlooks reveals a completely different perspective. Once out of your car, make the short walk out to the canyon’s rim. Feel that little tingle in the back of your head? That tingle grows as the level ground of pavement and parking lot gives way to a sharp drop. It is 2,000 feet down to the Colorado River. Welcome to Utah's Canyon Country. This is an ideal stop for visitors to Utah's Mighty 5® and Road to Mighty® between Canyonlands and Arches national parks. The park has built a splendid network of rolling singletrack trails over gentle slickrock domes and through the knee-high sage. Though technically mild by Moab standards, the trails are a hit for riders of all abilities. Families looking for a nice cruise together will enjoy the trails. There’s also plenty of fun for more experienced riders. There are three official geocaches at Dead Horse Point. All caches are located either along trails or in day use areas. Rock scrambling is never required, and hiking off trail is prohibited. Kayenta Campground offers 17 reservable sites and 4 nonreservable sites and there are three yurts. Make a reservation on the Utah State Parks reservation site.

This is totally worth the drive to get out there. A local recommended this for the sunset, instead of Arches NP, and I am so happy he did. The sunset was incredible, there were only a handful of people there and it was just breathtaking. Must see.
32 miles (51.5 km) from Moab, Dead Horse Point State Park is one of Utah's most spectacular state parks. The view from Dead Horse Point is one of the most photographed scenic vistas in the world. Towering 2,000 feet above the Colorado River, the overlook provides a breathtaking panorama of Canyonlands' sculpted pinnacles and buttes. Millions of years of geologic activity created the spectacular views from Dead Horse Point State Park. Deposition of sediments by ancient oceans, freshwater lakes, streams and windblown sand dunes created the rock layers of canyon country. Igneous activity formed the high mountains that rise like cool blue islands from the desert below.
We spent a night in June 2014 at the RV park with a 25 ft class C. The views right from the camp site were stunning! We saw lots of cactus in bloom and some wildlife. The sites were clean and roomy, would come back if we'll have the chance! Visitor Center is a very nice stop with a large patio overlooking the canyons below. Lots of hiking trail if have time.
If you have a few days in the Moab area choose this as a seperate one to your natl park days as you have to pay a different ticket cause its a state park. still really cool just be careful as you're literally on cliff edges right out of the parking lot!
If you have a couple of days in Moab or just want to see something besides Arches or Canyonlands, definitely check out Dead Horse Point. When I first heard that the view was as stunning as any from the Grand Canyon I scoffed, but for real, this place is astounding. You literally walk out of your car at the visitors center parking lot and step onto the edge of this ginormous precipice overlooking the canyon. But be sure and drive all the way past the visitors center parking lot to the Dead Horse Point as well, which offers some incredible views too.
If you have a 4x4 take the shafer trail that begins just past the entrance to canyonlands. It takes you right along the river to deadhorse point and out to moab. It is a very beautiful drive!
Unbelievable! We camped here for two nights during a 2 week trip to 5 national parks. The views here are INCREDIBLE & the camping facilities were SO NICE & SO CLEAN. We will definitely be back here.
This place is such a hidden gem! Gorgeous views of canyonlands and INCREDIBLE STAR GAZING. Such a great dark sky, you could see every galaxy and the Milky Way. Definitely reserve a camp site. They have power only but they do have a dump site. Bring your own water. Camp sites are huge and secluded and gorgeous views from every angle. So different from the national parks. Quiet and secluded and very awesome. Do the East or west rim trail for sunrise and sunset. Sunrise at the point is epic.

Day use fees are not charged to overnight campers.
While down on the Canyonlands and Monument Parks area we camped at Dead Horse on a friend's recommendation. This is a terrific camping experience. Forget Devil's Garden in The Archs, we think the views here are much better. You are overlooking the convergence of the Colorado and the Green rivers, quite spectacular. They have power (a good thing in the warmer months) but no water. There are flushing restrooms and ability to access drinking water is not a problem. Highly suggest making a reservation (reserve america) but thee are a couple of sites always set aside for walk ups.
